French major -Total Energies, one of the largest oil companies in the world, with operations in Uganda this week awarded local major oil field logistics company Threeways Shipping the award for Best Contractor, medium risk category 2024. The awards were revealed at the Total Energies-Tilenga HSSE contractors’ forum 2024, held under the theme-“Lets Improve our HSSE culture Together.” Total recognized three companies under three categories namely low, medium and high risks. The winner for low risk was Equator catering while high risk went to McDermott EPC. The forum brings together contractors and subcontractors working on the Tilenga Project to share experiences and best practices to drive excellence in Health and safety.
Philippe Groueix-the General Manager Total Energies urged all contractors to prioritize safety because “safety is the cornerstone of pour operational excellence across all business lines”. The GM added-“Consistency in safety efforts is crucial. Establishing a safety culture takes time, but it leads to sustainable business practices.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the ceremony, Geoffrey. B. Baitwa-the company MD who received the award on behalf of Threeways Shipping was joyful, said “Three ways continues to demonstrate resilience and perseverance despite the many challenges it has encountered.” He added that the company has continuously picked lessons from its experiences, to adapt to the ever-changing circumstances so as to emerge stronger. According to Mr. Baitwa, the recognition is a result of the company’s continued investment and commitment in safety protocols while prioritizing training for all human resources. Threeways has been on an upward trend since remerging from receivership, strengthened its corporate governance and continues to grow its presence in the oil and gas sector.
At the event, Geoffrey Tumusime, a Threeways shipping Services staff working as a Site Lifting Supervisor (SLS) in the Tilenga oil field scooped the individual award for best anomaly reporting underpinning the company’s HSSE success. In one incident, Geoffrey made a prompt report of a poor estimate of load capacity, which if had gone unnoticed, could have led to an accident or incident. Owing to his timely intervention as site supervisor, there was prompt mobilization of right equipment. “Anomaly” reporting helps to teach others such that re-occurrence is avoided, encouraging others to learn the right way of job execution,” Tumusime received a certificate in recognition and was also presented with a brand new sports bike by Total Energies.
